Student Newspapers Shine at Awards Ceremony

The Scene and The Montage continue to stand out as two of the best student-run newspapers in Missouri.
The publications from ϳԹ-Forest Park and ϳԹ-Meramec returned from the recent Missouri College Media Association conference as the top two papers in their division. The Scene took home the coveted “Best Overall Newspaper” in Division 4, which covers two-year schools, and The Montage finished second in the category.
The Scene won 30 awards overall, including first-place finishes in 11 categories. They were:
- Best Overall Newspaper (Staff)
- Investigative Reporting (Carrington Davis)
- Feature Writing (Andrew Gausch)
- Column (Sky Tucker)
- News Photography (Robbie Chamberlain)
- Sports Photography (Chamberlain)
- Political/Editorial Cartoon (Emi Smajic)
- Nonpolitical/Editorial Cartoon (Chloe Ogier)
- Story Illustration (Smajic)
- Photo Page (Makaylin Flier, Gausch)
- Feature Page (Roya Porshahidy, Liam Harris)

The Montage earned 33 honors total, including the Sweepstakes Award that goes to the newspaper in each division that earns the most awards. It took home first in:

- Editorial Writing (Nadia Agarwalla)
- Sports Writing (Unnerstall)

ϳԹ-Florissant Valley’s student newspaper, The Forum, did not enter the awards contest. ϳԹ-Wildwood does not have a publication.
